Zambia’s Ministry of Health, through the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) is currently implementing the Case Based Malaria Surveillance, also called Malaria Case Investigation in line with the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan 2022-2026.
Zambia commemorated World Mosquito Day, 16 th September 2023, in Chibombo District. This year’s commemoration was under the theme “Harness Innovation to Reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”. The event started with a Stationery Roadshow, supported by local music artists who provided several edutainment activities. The activities were followed by official remarks by the Guest of Honor (Honourable Minister-Central Province), represented by the Deputy Permanent Secretary. The event also had exhibitions by the National Malaria Elimination Centre and other partners from Faith based and private sectors.
The End Malaria Council officially launched a buy a Bicycle campaign on 28th September 2023. This is in response to the request from the Ministry of Health, through the National Malaria Elimination Centre (NMEC) for this support. The launch was hosted by the Engineering Institution (EIZ) of Zambia in Lusaka.
The Zambia malaria youth corps have continued pursuing the agenda of contributing to the elimination of malaria in Zambia, and to support other countries in the same fight. The youth have been actively participating in various local and national events.
A Malaria Elimination Business Plan writing workshop was held at Mika Convention Centre in Chongwe, from 19th to 22nd September 2023. The meeting was made possible with support from the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), through the End Malaria Council (EMC). The EMC secretariat, PAMO-Plus and NMEC coordinated the workshop.
Zambia joined the rest of the world in the commemoration of the World Malaria Day, which falls on 25th April every year. The End Malaria Council participated in the commemoration, under the theme “Time to deliver zero malaria… “invest, innovate. Implement”. The commemoration was held in Chililabombwe- a town bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo. The event was graced by the Minister of the Copperbelt province, Honourable Elisha Matambo.
USAID, through PMI, has partnered with the EMC in engaging the private sector through various platforms. At a round table meeting, which was held at PATH, Mikwala house in Lusaka, the private sector and EMC members shared experiences about their involvement in the malaria fight.
The meeting also facilitated the chatting of the way forward in supporting the NMEP’s efforts towards malaria elimination.
USAID further facilitated engagements with the private sector entities at sub-national level in Central, Eastern, Copperbelt and Northern provinces.
