Zambia commemorated World Mosquito Day, 16 th September 2023, in Chibombo District. This year’s commemoration was under the theme “Harness Innovation to Reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”. The event started with a Stationery Roadshow, supported by local music artists who provided several edutainment activities. The activities were followed by official remarks by the Guest of Honor (Honourable Minister-Central Province), represented by the Deputy Permanent Secretary. The event also had exhibitions by the National Malaria Elimination Centre and other partners from Faith based and private sectors.
At the same event, the Zambia Malaria Youth Corps (ZMYC) celebrated the 1st Anniversary of its existence. FLAME members also extended the advocacy and awareness activities as part of the World Mosquito Day Commemorations in selected districts, with a fundraising walk conducted in the capital city (Lusaka) on the same day.
Prior to the main event, several activities were conducted, including a media briefing that was hosted by the EMC Chair at First Quantum Mining PLC offices in Lusaka. Several media houses covered the commemoration by increasing awareness through radio, TV, print and other platforms.
